Food Waste Forum was started by Elena Freddi and Cattrina Mott in March 2017.
Elena and Cattrina met while volunteering with Olio and realized their mutual passion for reducing food waste. Two expats living in Stockholm, they knew that their adopted home was the ideal place to start their mission.
“The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Swedish EPA), the National Food Agency, and the Swedish Board of Agriculture have a three-year government mandate to reduce food waste.” (1)
Stockholm’s businesses and governing bodies are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of reducing waste, but more could be done to raise awareness of issues and developments across the board. The Food Waste Forum aims to facilitate this communication by connecting producers, retailers, experts and consumers both digitally and face-to-face. Working together, we can locate ongoing problems and create innovative solutions.
“By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.” (2)
While the recent government mandates are a real step towards reducing waste, we believe that is it only once people at all levels of society participate, that we will have a chance for a zero-waste future. To this end we also hope to be a source of information for consumers, offering practical, real-world advice for reducing food waste every day.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world.” (3)
We’re always interesting in meeting new people with an interest in reducing food waste. Tell us about your event or company or just drop us a message to say ‘hi’. Contact Us
